Description	:	Tipton county lost another pioneer woman Saturday afternoon, when Mrs. Kate Smith, wife of Roley Smith, died at the home on East Jefferson street at 1:45 o'clock. Death was caused by heart trouble from which she had suffered for several years, but her condition had never been critical until just a few hours before her death. Mrs. Smith had not been feeling well for several days but Saturday morning became much worse and shortly after the noon hour her condition grew critical. Read More	Tipton county lost another pioneer woman Saturday afternoon, when Mrs. Kate Smith, wife of Roley Smith, died at the home on East Jefferson street at 1:45 o'clock. Death was caused by heart trouble from which she had suffered for several years, but her condition had never been critical until just a few hours before her death. Mrs. Smith had not been feeling well for several days but Saturday morning became much worse and shortly after the noon hour her condition grew critical. A physician who was called could not relieve her. The body was removed to the Leatherman funeral home for preparation and to await funeral arrangements. News of the death of this lifelong resident was received with sorrow by all. Mrs. Smith was born near Curtisville, July 4, 1860, being one of several children born to Mr. and Mrs. John Havens. She was reared in the Curtisville community and educated in the schools of Madison township, supplementing that education through her own efforts. A devote Christian and a long time member of the Baptist church, Mrs. Smith was one of the best loved women of the community. January 1, 1879, the deceased was united in marriage to Roley Smith, one of the devout Christian men of this county, who for years engaged in singing evangelistic work in the baptist church. They made their home on a farm south of the William Webb corner for many years, moving to Tipton when they retired from the farm eleven years ago and purchased the property at the corner of Jefferson and Mill streets. Besides the husband and companion of 56 years, she is survived by seven children, Rev. Albert Smith of Martinsville, Ill., pastor of the Church of God at that place; Ivory Smith of Elwood; Lawrence, residing near Nevada; Mrs. Guy Trimble of the Windfall community; Mrs. Elvis Daniels of Seymour; (can't read last two names). Sixteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survives. One week ago Mrs. Smith and her husband returned from a three weeks visit among their children, all of whom were notified of their mother's death by telegraph yesterday. Funeral arrangements are pending.
