Description	:	Funeral services for Roley Smith, who died at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Simmons home, 363 South Independence street, following an illness of two and one-half years, will be held at the First Baptist church at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. James Quick, assisted by Rev. S.A. Gordon, will be in charge and burial will be in Fairview cemetery. The body was taken to the Ogle & Little Home for Funerals, where it will lie in state until time for services. Mr. Smith, who was 86, had been a patient at the Simmons home for about one and one-half years. Preceding that time he had live on East Jefferson street. Mr. Smith was born Nov. 10, 1859 in Prairie township to Huniwill and Nancy (Cobb) Smith. Later the family moved near Curtisville. On January 1, 1879, Mr. Smith was married to Hannah Catherine Havens, near Curtisville. They were the parents of eight children, one of which died in infancy. Mrs. Smith died in 1935. In 1887, the family moved from near Curtisville to a cabin northeast of Tipton and in 1924, Mr. Smith moved to Tipton where he has resided since. After the death of his first wife, Roley married Martha Barrow Mitchell in 1938 and she died in 1944. Mr. Smith taught vocal classes from 1890 to 1905 and later became a farmer. He was also an evangelistic singer and a member of the First Baptist church, in which he took an active part. Survivors are seven children, Ivory Smith of Prairie township; Lawrence Smith of near Nevada; Mrs. Blanche Daniels of Seymour; Everett Smith of Indianapolis; Rev. Albert Smith of Evansville; Roma D. Smith, 919 North Main street, and Mrs. Ethel Trimble of Tipton; two brothers, William A. Smith of Jefferson Ohio; and Noble Smith of Liberal, Kansas.
