Smith, at old Kowanda postoffice. Mrs. Smith has been ill for several years and has been confined to her bed the most of the time for three years or more. Funeral services were held at the Kowanda church at 2:30 last Saturday afternoon, and the remains tenderly laid to rest in the cemetery near there, services being conducted by Rev. C. T. Dillon of the Methodist church of this place, assisted by Rev. Newby of Chappell. A more extended obituary will be published next week." Garden County News, Thurs. September 20, 1928, pg 1 "OBITUARY Hannah Knapp was born in Clinton, Ohio, March 23, 1849 and died at the home of her son Henry at old Kowanda postoffice, September 5, 1928, being 79 years, 5 months and 12 days at the time of her passing. She was married to Conrad Smith on February 6th, 1869, and to this union were born 11 children, nine of whom are still living. Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to Nebraska in 1895 and located near Oshkosh seven years ago. Mrs. Smith has been ill for several years suffering from a stroke of paralysis about eight years ago and this being followed by a second one a few years later. She has been bedfast for the past three years. She united with the Lutheran church early in life, remaining a faithful and conscientious worker in that church. Besides her husband, Conrad Smith, she leaves to mourn her death nine children. Mrs. Caroline Brown, Ironton, Ohio; Fred Smith, Oshkosh; Henry Smith, Oshkosh; John Smith, Princeton, Nebr.; Mrs. Mary Ridgley, Pickerell, Nebr.; Mrs. Lizzie Doolittle, Amelia, Nebr.; William Smith, Lodge Pole; Carl Smith, Amelia, Nebr.; Mrs. Viola Doolittle, Firth, Nebr. There are also fifty-three grand children and twenty-seven great grand children. Two sisters and one brother also mourn her loss, they being Mrs. Louise Menke, DeWitt, Nebr.; Mrs. Mary Boggs, Tobias, Nebr.; and Henry Knapp, Powellsville, Ohio. Besides these are hosts of friends and neighbors who are sincerely grieved over the death of "Grandma" Smith, whom all had loved and respected. The funeral services were held from the Kowanda church Saturday afternoon, September 8, 1928, Rev. C. T. Dillon of the Oskhosh Methodist church and Rev. Newby of the Interdenominational church of Chappell conducting the services. The remains were then laid to rest in the Kowanda cemetery. We extend our sincere sympathy to the sorrowing ones in this sad hour."
