Read More	Hannah was the daughter of Patrick Murphy and Johanna Malone or Maloney. She married Thomas Madigan Feb 12, 1900 in Carroll county, Iowa. They were the parents of Bernard J., Lucille, Thomas, Leonard, and Jeremiah. August 1, 1928 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Thomas A. Madigan, nee Joanna Murphy, was born in Duagh, County Kerry, Ireland, July 11, 1869, and died July 24, 1928. When 11 years of age she came with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Murphy, to Arcadia township. They lived there but a short time, and then came to Carroll where she grew to womanhood. On February 12, 1899, she was united in marriage, to Thom. A. Madigan. They started housekeeping on the farm five miles northwest of Carroll, at which place she resided until the time of her death. To this union were born five children: Bernard, Lucille, Thomas, Leonard and Jeremiah, who with their father mourn her untimely death. She also leaves four brothers: Patrick and John of Chicago, Jerry of Carroll, and Michael of Rockwell. One sister, Julia, died in 1916. Besides these she leaves one cousin, Mrs. John Collison of Arcadia township, several nieces and nephews, and hosts of friends. Mrs. Madigan was a devout member of the Catholic church, and on the morning preceding her death she attended mass and received Holy Communion. Little thought did she have that it would be the last time she could receive the Blessed Eucharist, but hers was a life of preparedness for a better life than this earthly habitation. Tuesday morning the members of her family were grief stricken to find her in a sleep that knows no earthly awakening. Some time during the night the Angel of Death had visited her, and quietly and peacefully took her soul to the eternal reward, which only lives like hers may ever hope to enjoy. She was known for her love of home, her kindness of heart and her charity to all in trouble. She was a leader in her home and the community in which she lived. She used her life for others and never spared herself at any time. She loved her family and taught them the highest principles of life. Her life was a model for any Christian mother to follow. The funeral was held Friday morning from St. Joseph's church. Monsignor Butler paid her high tribute in his funeral sermon. The pallbearers were J.U. England, B. Schwabe, F. Bromert, G. O'Donnell, M.F. Kerwin and W.A. Collison. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Patrick Murphy, daughter Joanna, and son John of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Murphy and sons, Joe and Melvin, Mr. and Mrs. C. Murphy and family, all of Rockwell; J.H. Madigan and daughter, Gertrude of Lake City, Illinois; Mrs. Thos. O'Donnell and daughter, Margaret; Mrs. A. Walling and daughter, Mary, and son, Raymond, all of Anthon.
