Orangeville Banner, February 19, 1959 - THOMAS SANDERSON Mr. Thomas Francis Sanderson, a well known resident of Orangeville, passed away peacefully at his late residence, 79 Town Line, on Friday, February 6th, 1959, in his 65th year. Born in Orangeville on October 19, 1894, the oldest son of the late Richard Sanderson and Elizabeth Ridley, "Tommy", as he was affectionately known by his many friends, entered the employ of the Bell Telephone Company when a young man. He was a cable splicer for eighteen years, then switched to the Hydro, later affiliating with the Orangeville Hydro in the capacity of lineman for about fifteen years. From 1941 to 1951 he was also supervisor of the local arena where he was quite popular with the young folk of the district. On June 15th, 1951, he was the victim of a serious accident while on duty when he came in contact with a 4,000 volt line. Since that time he has been almost totally disabled, but bore his suffering during those years with an amazing cheerfulness. Much of the time was spent in hospital but, when at home he was cared for faithfully by his wife who has the sympathy of a host of friends in her bereavement. Mr. Sanderson was married twice. His first wife was Clara Tucker, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tucker of Orangeville, who passed away in 1924. One daughter was born of this union: Irene (Mrs. Cecil Miles) of Smithville. On December 7th, 1935, he was united in marriage to Hannah Eudle, daughter of Mrs. Fedora Eudle and the late George Eudle of Orangeville. Besides his wife, a sister, Mrs. John Diebold of Claresholm, Alberta, survive as well as four brothers: Fred of Alton, Leonard of Tillsonburg, Richard of Stratford and Norman of Toronto. There are also three granddaughters, Joyce, Dianne and Joan Miles of Smithville. Mr. Sanderson was a member of Tweedsmuir Memorial Presbyterian Church, of Harris Masonic Lodge No. 216, A.F. & A.M. and Maple Leaf Lodge No. 57 I.O.O.F. His pastor, Rev. John Nute, had charge of the service which was held from the Thompson Funeral Chapel on Monday, February 9th, at 2 o'clock, to Forest Lawn Mortuary. The profusion of beautiful floral tributes bore mute testimony to the esteem held for the deceased. Out-of-town friends made sympathy calls, and a wire from Mr. Earl Rowe, M.P. for Dufferin-Simcoe, expressed condolences. Relatives and friends from Tillsonburg, Stratford, Alton, Toronto, Smithville, Fergus, Brampton, Glen Williams, Hannon, New Hamburg, Milgrove, Elora, Shelburne, Port Dalhousie and Waldemar attended the funeral service as a last token of respect for one who had been a good friend. Pallbearers were Charles Broyden, John Campbell, J. M. Aiken, Keith Hunter, Ben White and James Scott. Flower bearers were William Pollschuk, Stanley Rennick, J. E. Sanderson and Ernest Prior.
