Description	:	Mrs. Hannah McCoy, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Boone County, passed away at her home on North Marshall Street Tuesday evening November 24th, at 5:30 o'clock, at the ripe old age of 84 years. Read More	Mrs. Hannah McCoy, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of Boone County, passed away at her home on North Marshall Street Tuesday evening November 24th, at 5:30 o'clock, at the ripe old age of 84 years. Hannah Gallagher was born in County Donegal, Ireland, in May, 1819, when she was twenty five years of age she was united in marriage to Dennis McCoy. Four years later, in 1852, with two young children, James and Anthony, they came to America and settled in Pennsylvania where they resided three years, then removed to Clinton County, Iowa. There they resided until 1866, when they came to Boone County, and settled on the farm in Des Moines Township northeast of the city, which farm Mrs. McCoy still owned at the time of her death. Both Mr. and Mrs. McCoy were thrifty, hardworking people, honest and conscientious to a fault; and their labors were soon rewarded by a competence sufficient to warrant them in retiring from active life, to enjoy the fruits of years of toll and hardships, which the building up of a new country had entailed upon all the early settlers. About fifteen years ago they removed to Boone, where they might pass their declining years in peace and comfort, but scarcely had they settled in their new home, when Mrs. McCoy was called upon to mourn the loss of her husband. Since then she has lived a quiet and humble life, doing good wherever in her power and winning the respect and esteem of all who knew her. Deceased was a member of the Catholic Church, a devout Christian, and had lived an exemplary life. She leaves eight children to mourn her death, James and Anthony, of Harrison Township, Mrs. Sarah Jordan of Harrison, Nebr., Mrs. Mary Ann Jordan of Jackson township, Mrs. Lizzie Garland of Des Moines township, Mrs. Julia Garland of Guthrie county, IA, and Joseph and Mrs. Kate Miller, at home with their mother, one son, Daniel, having died in Clinton county. Mrs. McCoy has performed a noble life work in rearing a large family of respected sons and daughters, and has gone to her rest with the consciousness of a life well spent. The funeral was held this morning from Sacred Heart church and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. The family have the sympathy of the entire community, in their bereavement.
