Description	:	Hannah Howard was the youngest daughter of Ziba and Josephine (Roberts) Howard’s six children. On 12 January 1885 [James] Milton Vincent, gave affidavit for the marriage of J.T. Sanders, age 24, and Hannah Howard, age 21. Three days later in Tipton, Cedar County the Rev. Eugene May officiated their marriage ceremony January 15, 1885. Sanders, age 24, and Hannah Howard, age 21. Three days later in Tipton, Cedar County the Rev. Eugene May officiated their marriage ceremony January 15, 1885. In the 1885 Iowa State Census of Gower Township, Cedar County, Hannah and her new husband "Gentry" are residing with her parents Ziba and Josephine Howard. With new evidence, the elusive initialed man “J.T.” can now be identified, with reasonable certainty, as being Gentry Thomas Sanders. Gentry has appeared in other records using initials of J.T., perhaps written phonetically as J for Jentry. This Cedar County index records his birthplace as Munroe [sic] County, Missouri, and names his parents as Wiley J. Sanders and Loretta Hathman [Heathman]. Wiley Sanders household enumerates a Gentry in 1870. He appears in the 1880 household of Loretta Mallory with relationship given as son. James Milton Vincent, who gave the affidavit to marry is no doubt related to Gentry, as he too was in Monroe County, Missouri and married Sarah “Sally” Ann Heathman in 1851. A relationship between Vincent and Sanders could explain Gentry’s presence in Cedar County, Iowa. In 1880 the Vincent and Howard families are only three households apart. In 1883 James and Sally Vincent’s daughter, Lucy Vincent, married Robert G. Howard, the older brother of Hannah Howard; again in 1884 is another inter-mingling of the Vincent and Howard families when Isabelle Howard, sister to Hannah and Robert, married John Dudley Vincent, the brother to Lucy Vincent Howard. In 1896 after the 1895 death of his wife Isabelle, John Dudley Vincent married in Monroe County, Missouri to Ida Belle Heathman. Hannah and Gentry became parents of Etta J. Sanders 6 October 1885. This little girl died 21 March 1887 and just four months later, in July, her mother Hannah died. Both are buried in the Howard Cemetery, Cedar County, Iowa. After the death of his wife and daughter, Gentry returned to Monroe County, Missouri where one year later he married his second wife, 22 March 1888, J.T. Sanders to Lizzie Rigsby. [The evidence unambiguously shows that Gentry Thomas and J.T. are one and the same man. Birthplace and name of parents given in marriage index, use of J.T. in records in both Iowa and Missouri, the name Gentry in 1885 census identifies Hannah’s husband by name rather than initials, the 1910 Pontotoc, Oklahoma census shows he was married twice [M2].
