Her age was 80 years, one month and two days. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 26, at two o'clock at the Lafayette Christian church. The Rev. Frank Andrews, of Vinton, assisted by the Rev. M.D. Swisher, of Center Point, conducted the service. Mrs. Jack Ashlock and L.J. Dennis, accompanied by Mrs. Carl McCalley, of Alburnett, sang "Sometime We'll Understand," "In the Garden," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The casket bearers were James Stick, Eugene Stick, Wendell Moore, Charles Kennedy, Leslie Chesmore and Clyde Chesmore. Burial was made in the Lafayette cemetery. Lucretia H. Stick, daughter of Riley and Nancy Chesmore, was born in New York state, February 22, 1861. She came with her parents to Otter Creek township where they settled one mile west of Lafayette in 1866. At the age of 14, she united with the Evangelical church. Following her marriage she became a member of the Lafayette Christian church, where she was a regular in attendance until ill health forced her to remain at home. She, however, continued to receive much strength and pleasure from religious radio programs, and the regular study of her Bible. She was united in marriage to James A. Stick April 9, 1882 at the home of her parents. This union was blessed by six children. A son, William Riley, was taken in infancy. Surviving are her companion of nearly 59 years; five children, Lucy May of Lafayette, W.E. Stick, Mrs. Karl Karch and Mrs. Elmer Moore of Alburnett, and Vernal Stick, of Walker; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. During her 75 years in the same community she made many friends, who in trouble, looked to her for encouragement, in sickness, for help, and in sorrow, for comfort. Her life is a story of the pioneer spirit which would not know defeat; enduring hardship, lending a helping hand, and bestowing upon future generations a better world and a witness of the power and comfort of a faith in the Creator. Stick, 80, who passed away March 24 at St. Luke's hospital, were conducted Wednesday at the Lafayette Christian church, in charge of the Rev. Andrews, of Vinton, and Rev. Swisher, of Center Point. Burial was made in the Lafayette cemetery. Mrs. Stick was born in New York state, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Chesmore, and came to Iowa with her parents at the age of five. She was married to James A. Stick April 9, 1882. They have made their home continuously on their farm west of Lafayette. She was for many years a member of the Lafayette Christian church and devoted her life to her church and her family. Surviving are her husband and five children: W.E. Stick, V.G. Stick, Mrs. Karl Karch, Mrs. Elmer Moore, and Miss Lucy Stick, at home. There are also ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
