Read More	Highland Recorder February 4, 1938 The funeral services for Mrs. Hannah Swadley Simmons, who died at the home of her son, H.L. Simmons, in Crabbottom, Wednesday, January 26, were held Friday afternoon at one o’clock from the Central Methodist Church Rev. C.B. Gibbs officiating assisted by the Rev. L.H. Greenwood the Rev. A.E. Johnson. The services were attended by a large number of relatives and friends who gathered to pay tribute of respect to one whom they loved and whom they respected for her meekness and simplicity of life, a life guided by the Word as a lamp unto her feet, and a light unto her path. She was not unmindful in her last hours to call for the last rite of anointing service in her accepted belief and faith to be performed. A full commitment of her life unto the care of her Master was indicated in the selected text, Psalm 31:5 “Into thine hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of Truth” which, at her request, was used in the funeral service. How great a testimony of “the abundant life!” Her loved ones grieve that she walks no more with them, but they are comforted in their knowledge of her utter faith in her Lord and of her joy in the heavenly reunion with dear ones in the House of the Master, whom she loved and worshiped. “A brightness hath passed from the earth, Yet a star is new-born in the sky; And a soul hath gone home to the land of its birth, Where are pleasures and fullness of joy. Where its thirst shall be slacked with the waters that spring Like a river of light from the throne of the King; And a new harp is strung, and a new song is given To the breezes that float o’er the garden of Heaven.” Hymns that Mrs. Simmons loved were used in the service. “Where We’ll Never Grow Old”, “How Firm a Foundation” and “Goodnight and Good morning”, by the choir; “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” as a solo; “Abide With Me”, as a duet and “My Faith Looks Up To Thee” and “Where The Gates Swing Outward Never” as instrumental music. Interment was in Union Chapel cemetery. Attending from a distance were Mr. Ira Q. Simmons and children, Helen, Ira Jr., Allen and Elwood of Fishersville; Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Simmons and Mr. Paul Simmons of Washington, D.C.; Mr. Holland Simmons of Hyattsville, Maryland and Mr. and Mrs. Kiblinger of Fishersville.
