Description	:	Hannah was the daughter of Joseph Wadleigh and Anna Swain. About 1760 she married Caleb Smith, son of Jonathan Smith and Bridget Keniston. Having served in the Revolution, Caleb agreed with the proprietors of Piercy (Stark) to build a saw and grist mill in town, but there is no record that he ever did so. He moved with his family from Raymond, NH to Piercy about 1787 and signed the petition for incorporation in 1791. There is a lot of confusion on the names of their children. About 1760 she married Caleb Smith, son of Jonathan Smith and Bridget Keniston. He moved with his family from Raymond, NH to Piercy about 1787 and signed the petition for incorporation in 1791. There is a lot of confusion on the names of their children. The history of Stark says "Among the children were: Isaac, Benjamin, Abigail [Rowell], Deborah [Pike], Mehitable [Rowell], Elizabeth [Miles], Hannah [Smith], and Caleb". Another book states they had ten daughters and one son: Annie, Betsey, Debbie, Lizzie, Hepsibah, Rachel, Sally/Sarah, Bridget, Alys, Polly, and Caleb. But that book also states that Caleb the 2nd was in President Lincoln's cabinet. That was not this Caleb, son of Caleb & Hannah. It was Caleb Blood Smith, 1808-1864, born in Boston and died in Indiana. So you can't believe everything in all of these books or even in family rememberances. The only thing clear is they had a lot of children. Hannah is often listed as having died in Raymond but there is a death certificate for her in Percy. She would have been buried here with Caleb, although I found no stone for her when I canvased this cemetery. There are a lot of missing or broken headstones in this little cemetery. NOTE: It doesn't seem that Caleb or Hannah originally had headstones. If they did they were not there in 1930 when the Stark, NH Tombstones book was written. Caleb, along with Peter Massure and Elisha Blake, were given military stones at a much later date. Caleb's and Elisha's are just sitting side by side on a rock and couldn't possibly be marking their actual graves. Peter's was farther away from them and placed in the ground, like they actually knew where he was buried.
