From Nevada Evening Journal April 12, 1937 (page 1) Hans Hansen Died at Home Here; Funeral Tuesday Hans Hansen, 83, died at his home at 1046 First street, Saturday at 11 p.m., after having been declining in health for the past two years and confined to his bed since the middle of January. Mr. Hansen was a retired farmer who had lived in his home facing the west end of K avenue for thirty years. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Bishop Funeral home and burial will be in the Nevada cemetery. Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church will be in charge of the services. He leaves his wife, Helen Peterson Hansen, whom he married here 56 years ago, his one son, Emiel Hansen of Grant township, his daughter Mrs. Emma Anderson of 324 J avenue, Nevada, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Grant township, and a number of nieces and nephews. One niece, Miss Mollie Hansen, a returned missionary from Africa, had long been very close to Mr. Hansen and had been in the home and cared for him during his final illness, she being a trained nurse. Mr. Hansen was born at Toxvar, in Zeland county, Denmark, October 24, 1854. He came to Amerida with his parents, one brother and two sisters in 1873, one brother having preceeded the family here. Mr. Hansen was married to Miss Helen Peterson in 1880 and they started farming first on a place north of McCallsburg, where they lived for ten years, then farmed for a time in Milford township northwest of Nevada, later on a farm near Story City and finally retired and located in their First street home in Nevada in 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen were members of Memorial Lutheran church during their residence here and were known as people of exceptionally fine character and were highly respected. Mr. Hansen was a man much devoted to his home and family and too but little interest in outside activities, although he was always liberal with his means in charitable, religious and civic affairs. He will be deeply mourned by his family and his passing will be much regreted by a large circle of neighbors and close friends. SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mr. Hansen was born at Toxvaerd, Zealand, Denmark.
