Description	:	Hans Heinrich Seegers was born on 19 April 1834 in Haste, Department Rutenburg, County Schaumburg, Kurhessen (1) and shortly thereafter received his Holy Baptism. He attended school in Hohnhorst, where he was confirmed. At the age of twenty, he came to this land and lived in Des Plaines, Illinois, Cook County. In 1862 he married Maria Steege. He attended school in Hohnhorst, where he was confirmed. At the age of twenty, he came to this land and lived in Des Plaines, Illinois, Cook County. In 1862 he married Maria Steege. The service was conducted by Pastor Reichmann in Elk Grove, Illinois, whereupon he purchased a farm in Maxfield, Iowa and relocated there. Resulting from his first marriage were thirteen children: six sons and seven daughters, of whom six preceded him in death. It was a hard blow to him, when on September 4, 1886 his wife was torn from him by death. After four years he was married for a second time to Maria Mensching (a widow). For the next ten years he retired in Tripoli, Iowa. Despite this he remained active for the rest of his life. Throughout many years he was plagued by occasional acute rheumatism. In the last years however this sickness returned with an acute cramping condition. God though protected him during this stage that he never suffered terribly when during the remaining weeks the illness set into his organs, and soon the hour of salvation had arrived during the early morning hours of this past February 16. He will now be mourned by his surviving widow and children Heinrich and Wilhelm Seegers, Maria Oltrogge, Minna Bartels, Sophie Brandt, Louise Möhling and Karoline Möhling, and twenty-five grandchildren from these two communities and one living brother as well as a sister in Germany. With his death we lose a long-time member of the community of Maxfield and one of the first founders of the St. Johannes community of Tripoli. His life yielded 74 years, 9 months, and 27 days. The funeral was last Saturday in the graveyard at Maxfield under the office administration of Pastor H. Böhlmann. In Tripoli, Pastor H. Böhlmann held a funeral address from the Book of Revelation 14, 13; in Maxfield Pastor J. Gräning another from Verse 4 Thanksgiving. All neighbors and friends, who, during our father's illness, gave such helpful support and paid him their last respects, we offer our deepest thanks. Mrs. H.H.
