Description	:	CLARKS — Hanson “Hans” S. Elliott, 84, of Clarks died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at Westfield Quality Care in Aurora. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City, with Pastor Janice Ferrell officiating. Burial will be in the Bureau Cemetery by Pierce Chapel. Solt-Wagner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Hanson was born Nov. 11, 1933, in Columbus to John W. and Vera Scott Elliott. He grew up and attended school in Columbus, graduating from Kramer High School in 1951. Hanson was a member of the Federated Church in Columbus since 1951. Hanson then attended Doane College in Crete. He graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in business and economics. He then entered the military in October of 1955 and was honorably discharged in October of 1958. He reached the rank of sergeant and spent 22 months in Frankfurt, Germany. After being honorably discharged from the military, Hanson returned to Columbus and started his teaching career of 30 years in the system. Hanson also earned his MSE degree from Wayne State College, majoring in guidance. He also took additional classes at UNK and UNL. Hanson was very active in education. He was an active member of the national, state and local organizations. He was an honorary life member of Nebraska Congress of Parents and Teachers, a life member of Platte County Historical Society, and a former member of the Elks Lodge, where he served as a building representative. He served as president of the Columbus Education Association, and as secretary of District II of the Nebraska State Education Association. On the state level, he served on the Welfare and Services Commission as well as on the nominating committee. Hanson was a delegate to four National Education Association Conventions. He served three terms as Columbus library president as well as being a charter member of the Columbus Library Foundation. Hanson also found time to be a counselor to Boy Scouts on merit badges in citizenship. Hanson was survived by many friends. Hanson married a longtime friend and co-worker, Irene Barnes of Clarks, in September of 1999. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and traveling. Hanson was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and his wife, Irene.
