Knowlton, in Iowa City at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. Read More	Obituary Hawarden Independent September 4, 1930 Mrs. H. A. Knowlton, one of the pioneer residents of this vicinity passed away at the home of her son, G.C. Knowlton, in Iowa City at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. Mrs. Knowlton suffered a stroke Monday evening and her entire left side was paralyzed and it was realized at that time that her condition was critical. She had been in failing health for the past couple of months and some time ago Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Knowlton of Iowa City came to Ireton to look after her. She recovered somewhat and was able to return to Iowa City with her son three weeks ago, and was up and around after reaching his home. Her remains will be brought back to Ireton, arriving on the afternoon train today. Funeral services will be held at her home at 1:30 Friday afternoon and at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock with Rev. F. W. Bruch, her pastor, in charge. Interment will be made in the Ireton Cemetery.(Pleasant Hill Cemetery) Mrs. Knowlton was one of the pioneer residents of this vicinity, coming here with her husband, W. I. Knowlton, over 50 years ago. They homesteaded on the Knowlton farm, four miles east of Ireton, and for many years they lived in a sod house. This farm was still in her possession at the time of her death. She had reached the advanced age of 79 years. She was the mother of two children, G. C. Knowlton of Iowa City, and Mrs. Nellie Swift, who passed away in 1916. Her husband preceded her in death in 1912. Besides her son she is survived by five grandchildren, Harry and Irving Swift of Hawarden, Mrs. Lewis Haines of Sioux City and Miss Blanche and Clinton Knowlton Jr. of Iowa City. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Knowlton was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church and was ever a faithful worker in this organization. She was a true type of the rugged pioneers and endured many hardships in her early life in Sioux County, but through her thrifty spirit she acquired enough of this world's goods to live at ease in her old age.
