Description	:	Harlan Elmer Wherley, 54, Velva, ND, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at home following an arduous battle with pancreatic cancer. Harlan was born in Minot, ND on August 12, 1963 to Dallas and Betty (Williams) Wherley. During his childhood, the family resided in several different communities around the state, but Harlan completed his education at Granville High School in 1981. Read More	Harlan Elmer Wherley, 54, Velva, ND, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, at home following an arduous battle with pancreatic cancer. Harlan was born in Minot, ND on August 12, 1963 to Dallas and Betty (Williams) Wherley. During his childhood, the family resided in several different communities around the state, but Harlan completed his education at Granville High School in 1981. At the age of 21, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he excelled in his work in the engine room. In 1989, Harlan was blessed with the birth of his son Christopher. The father-son duo later moved to California where Harlan met his future wife of 25 years, Maryanne. After another big move back to North Dakota, Harlan and Maryanne wed in March of 1993. They took up residence north of Velva, where the family still lives today. The couple welcomed a daughter, Sarah, in 1996. Many professions called his name, but Harlan had the most success behind the wheel; whether it be on the farm, in the oil field, or trucking from Canada to Texas. Although, if you asked him, his favorite job was being a father and grandpa. When not on the road, you could find Harlan out on the boat, four-wheeling down prairie trails, or taking a well-deserved nap with his favorite four-legged companions. Surviving family includes: Wife, Maryanne Wherley; children, Christopher Wherley and Sarah Wherley; grandsons, Gregory Vierley and Lucas Wherley, all of Velva; siblings, Kimberly (Ray) Preston, Surrey, Blaine Wherley, Minot and Colette Kraft, Minot; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Harlan is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; parents-in-law; and several devoted aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home
