Description	:	Harlan "Dutch" Eckley, age 82, of Boone passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the Boone County Hospital in the care of Iowa Hospice of Panora. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, northeast of Boone, with Pastor Michael Standfest officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, at the Walter ~ Schroeder Funeral Home at Fifth & Story Streets in Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Dutch was born on January 7, 1931 in Boone County, Iowa to E.H."Gene" and Elsie B.(Krumm) Eckley. He attended St. Paul's Parochial School and graduated from Stanhope High School in 1949. On September 2, 1950, Dutch married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Rose at Boone, Iowa. Dutch farmed in Boone County, Iowa all his life, he also worked at West Central Coop elevator during harvest season for 3 years and then did custom corn shelling and combining beans and corn. Dutch raised cattle every year, and would haul them to the Omaha stockyards in his truck when they were ready for sale. He was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Dutch enjoyed fishing for crappy and catfish and going to Canada to fish for northern pike and walleye and also going to Wall Lake near Jewell to fish. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, also enjoyed going to Lake Okoboji to water ski. He enjoyed the time he roasted hogs and deep fried turkeys for family and friends. Dutch is survived by his wife, Betty J. Eckley of Boone; his daughter, Connie Lewis and husband Al of Urbandale; his daughter, Barb Rasmus and husband Al of Boone and his son, Kent Eckley and wife Nancy of Boone; his 4 grandchildren, Chad Rasmus, Dustin Rasmus (Erin), Valerie Rosser (Tim), Cassie Croker (Aaron); 2 step-grandchildren, Nancy DeCosta (Dennis) and Patrick Lewis; his 5 great grandchildren, Caden Rasmus, Mayci Rasmus, Declan Rasmus, Addalyn Rasmus, Connor Rosser; 2 step great grandchildren, Olivia DeCosta and Jack DeCosta; his brother, Deane E. Eckley of Boone; his sister, Betty Peter and husband Hubert of Boone; his sister-in-law, Dolores Hein of Boone and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Jim Schroeder of Boone and many nieces and nephews. Dutch is preceded in death by his parents; his infant twin sisters, Dorothy and Anna and his sister-in-law, Lois Eckley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Iowa Hospice of Panora in memory of Harlan "Dutch" Eckley.
