A graduate of Unadilla High School, Stoner spent 37-1-2 years as a working foreman lineman for the Omaha Public Power District. He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church and Mid-County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 5547, all Syracuse. Stoner enjoyed bowling, football and sports in general. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Clara, Syracuse; son, Charles and wife Diane, Nebraska City, and Ronald and wife Christie, Lincoln; daughters, Dona Mae Fisher and husband Ronald, Johnson; Linda Hoover, Humboldt, Barbara Harris and husband David, Table Rock; and Debra Lamblin and husband Eric, Syracuse; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers; three sisters and many friends. Stoner was preceded by his parents; brothers, Earl and Harvey and a son-in-law, Lee Hoover. Services were Monday, Feb. 12, at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Syracuse. Pastor Paul Coen officiated. Interment was at Park Hill Cemetery. Members of Massie-Richards American Legion Post No. 100 and Mid-County VFW Post No. 5547 conducted full military rites. Pallbearers were: Gary Carmen, Roger Pieper, Dick Bennet, Harvey Stoner, LeRoy Obermeyer and Kelly Shannon. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons: Steven and Travis Stoner; Russell Fisher; Eugene and Derrick Hoover; Andrew Harris and Nicholaus Lamblin. Cindy Post was organist. Gerald Neeman said. There was congregational singing. Condolences may be left at: www.fusselmanwymore.com. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Foundation or the Kidney Foundation. Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home, Syracuse, was in charge of arrangements.
