Description	:	Harlow Virgil Magill was born November 15, 1927 the son of Henry James and Iva Belle Ewart Magill. He died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa at the age of eighty. He died Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa at the age of eighty. Virgil was born in Vail, Iowa and was baptized in Christ on July 20, 1941 at the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, also in Vail. He received his education in Vail schools, graduating with the class of 1945. After graduation, he began farming with his brother, Melvin in Charter Oak. On August 27, 1950 he was united in marriage to Barbara Senhen at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm outside of Charter Oak. In 1953, Virgil and Barbara had a farm sale in preparation of his entrance to the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon receiving an honorable discharge from service in 1955, he returned to Charter Oak to begin farming. He was confirmed January 17, 1956 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children, Vicki and Lee. Virgil and Barbara continued on the farm with the help of their two nephews, Bill and Ron, and later their children. Virgil and Barbara continued farming until 1983, when they moved to town in Charter Oak. In addition to farming, he drove the school bus, managed Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts store, and also purchased and operated the drug store in Charter Oak. Virgil was a loving husband and father who enjoyed raising and showing horses. He was an active member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak where he served as an Elder and Secretary of the Voters. He was also a member of the Silver Spurs. Virgil enjoyed playing cards with neighbors and friends. He also enjoyed working in the yard and garden. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister. His brothers and sisters were Harold; Melvin and his wife, Marie; and Edwin; and Vera and husband, Walter Cosgrove. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Charter Oak; one daughter, Vicki Magill of Charter Oak; one son, Lee and wife, Darci of Plano, Texas; two grandchildren, Lee Murray Magill and Meghan Elizabeth Magill both of Plano, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Maxine Magill of Denison as well as many nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service and grave side rites held at the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Marjorie Neddermeyer provided the organ accompaniment for vocalists, Louise, Sophie and James Magill singing "On Eagle's Wings" and congregational hymns "Rock of Ages, Cleft For Me" and "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". Honorary Pallbearers were: Orlen Creese and Murlyn Aronson. Those serving as pallbearers were: Alan Neddermeyer, Kevin Clausen, Gibson Magill, Marty Magill, James Magill and Gary Magill. Military Honors were the Charter Oak American Legion Post 66. A Prayer Service was held at 6:30 P.M., Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid.
