Description	:	Harm A. Kuipers, 88, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at the Old Platte Cemetery. Kuipers, 88, of Platte, SD passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Platte Christian Reformed Church. A Committal Service will follow at the Old Platte Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. prior to services on Thursday. Harm A. Kuipers was born on November 15, 1924 to Albert and Dena (Meyerink) Kuipers on the farm in Old Platte. Harm attended rural school in Platte Township and then worked on the family farm, and for a short period of time at a factory in Michigan. On August 31, 1949 he was united in marriage to Bertha Westerhuis in Platte. After their marriage they began farming, and together they farmed for over 60 years. In later years, it was a source of pride for Harm to share the farming with his oldest son, Darrell. Harm was a member of the Platte Christian Reformed Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Christian School board and served also on the Forbes township board. Harm enjoyed fixing and restoring antique farm equipment, traveling to visit his children, and reading. He and Bertha took many memorable trips, including ones to New Orleans, Honduras, Michigan, and Newfoundland. Grateful for having shared in Harm's life are: his wife of nearly 64 years, Bertha; their eight children: Donna (Ron) Kaemingk of Englewood, CO; Darrell (Gretchen) Kuipers of Platte, SD; Arla (Michael) Mattock of Maryville, MO; Bonnie (Michael) Danielson of Minneapolis, MN; Dennis (Lynda) Kuipers of Wellington, CO; Kurt (Gaik) Kuipers of Hilo, HI; Kent (Nancy) Kuipers of Cadott, WI, and Lori (Michael) Holcomb of Cadott, WI; grandchildren: Jon (Ann) Kaemingk of Spring Lake, MI; Ronda (Chris) Olson of Englewood, CO; Aaron (Aleesha) Kaemingk of Denver, CO; Ian (Valarie) Kuipers of Zeeland, MI; Peter Kuipers of Platte, SD; Dominic and Will Mattock of Maryville, MO; Johann, Anja, and Lukas Kuipers of Hilo, HI; Anne, Sarah, and Emily Kuipers of Cadott, WI; Caitlin and Megan Holcomb of Cadott, WI; great-grandchildren: Grant and Gavin Kaemingk of Denver, CO; Isaac Olson of Englewood, CO; two sisters: Adeline Kuipers and Allis (Marion) Hansum; three brothers: Lloyd (Virginia) Kuipers; Marion (Marie) Kuipers; and Gerald (Vonnie) Kuipers all of Platte; three sisters-in-law: Patricia Westerhuis, Joann Kuipers both of Platte, SD and Clarice Little of Canon City, CO; as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins.as well as nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harm was preceded in death by: his parents; two sisters: Nina and Bertha; two brothers: Henry and George; one sister-in-law: Betty Kuipers; and two brothers-in-law: Harm Westerhuis and David Little.
