Harm attained the age of 76 years, 5 months and 30 days. The following is the obituary for Harm. Harm Buss, one of the pioneers of Middleton township, Turner County, SD, was born at Tuixum: East Friesland, Germany on Feb. 1, 1848. The family migrated to America when he was 16 years old to Freeport, IL. From there they moved to Ackley, IA in 1870. He was united in marriage to Dena Bossman, and they lived and farmed there till 1878, when they came to Dakota and took up a homestead in MIddleton township, with the hope and determination to have a home. Here this family lived, worked and endured the hardships of pioneer days and afterward enjoyed the rewards of industry and a good home. In 1911 the family retired from active farm life and moved to Lennox, SD to live in comfort. Mr. Buss became ill about two weeks ago from aenemia (bright's disease) and on July 31st he passed away. He leaves to mourn, his wife and nine children: Henry Buss, Mrs. Andrew Mortison of Marion, SD, Mrs. John Naatjes, Mrs. Peter Lude, Mrs. Burt Oltmans of Lennox, Mrs Lou Tjaden of Willow Lake, George Buss, Herman Buss and Ben Buss of Davis. Three children preceded him in death. The following was taken from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Mr. and Mrs. Harm Buus who settled on a homestead four miles southwest of Lennox in 1878. Harm Buus was born in Ostfriesland, Germany in 1848 and at the age of 16 years came with his parents to America locating near Freeport, IL. In 1870 he moved to Grundy County, IA, and that same year was united in marriage to Hedina Margaret Bossman. They continued their residence in Iowa for eight years, and then 1878 came to Dakota territory to cast their fortunes with the other early homesteaders in this region. Mr. Buus was one of the organizers and charter members of the First Turner County Presbyterian church and active in all community affairs in those early days. For 33 years they continued on the farm and in 1911 retired to take up their residence in Lennox. Mr. Buus passed away on Jul. 31, 1924. Twelve children were born to this union and surviving are the following: George, Herman, Henry and Ben, Mrs John Naatjes, Mrs, Bert Oltmans, Mrs. S.L. Tjaden, Mrs. Andrew Mortensen, Mrs. John Geersma and Mrs. Anna Wiese.
