He married Lorraine Bentien in Salem on March 31, 1937. They farmed in the Salem are until retiring and moving into Salem in 1980. He had been a resident of Colonial Manor since September of 1996. Harold passed away at Colonial Manor on February 19, 1997. He had reached the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 27 days. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Salem, and the Farmers Union. Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of Salem, SD; two sons, Ray Forster of Brandon, SD; and Gerald Forster of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Wally Forster of Sante, CA; and four sisters, Loraine Kirby and Dorothy Hershley of Rapid City, SD; Lavonne Newton of Kingman, AZ; and Beverly Tieszen of Ft. Collins, CO. he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dale and Marion, and one sister, Mary Jane Arnold.
