Read More	Harold Waechter died Saturday Harold Adolph Waechter was born May 22, 1907, on the family farm between Blue Hill and Bladen in Webster County, Nebraska. Harold was the eighth of nine children born to Christian and Elizabeth (Luhn) Waechter. He was baptized on September 15, 1907 and confirmed May 28, 1922 in Blue Hill at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where he remained a lifetime member. He passed away at his home in Blue Hill on Saturday, August 5, 1989 at the age of 82 years. His formal education was obtained at Prairie Gem and Cloverton Country Schools and Blue Hill High School. Harold’s commitment to farming began as a young adult. He spent his early adult years helping his parents maintain their farm and home during the depression years. On October 4, 1944, he brought his bride, Vera Schulz, to this home. To their union was born one daughter, Coleen and on son, Keith. He was active in community activities, enjoying neighborhood gatherings, harvest crews, and butchering bees. He served on the Prairie Gem school board; the board of directors of the Blue Hill Farmers Coop; the Webster County Soil and Water Conservation District; the Natural Resources District and was serving as a member of the Webster County Natural Resources Conservation Foundation at the time of his death. He served his church as a Sunday School teacher and treasurer and as a member of the Church Council. His philosophy for conservation of the land was borne out in the care of his own farm and he was recognized with the presentation of the Webster County Soil Conservation Award in 1957. In 1970 Harold and Vera moved to Blue Hill and turned over the physical aspects of farming to his son, Keith and family. He continued to lend his support to the operation until his death. Harold’s retirement years were filled by employment at the Corner Service in Blue Hill, and hours of visiting and card playing with friends and his 7 grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Vera; children, Coleen and Keith; son-in-law, Bob Dygert; daughter-in-law Linda Waechter; grandchildren: Carmyn, Larry and Kristin Dygert. Lora, Lisa, Lindsay, and Leslie Waechter. Other survivors are a brother, Fred and a sister, Minnie (Mrs. Clarence) Frahm and his sister-in-law, Goldie Waechter, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Eda Hartman, Clara Vance and Ella Engelhardt and brothers, Louis, Carl and Howard. Services for Mr. Waechter were at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blue Hill Tuesday morning with the Rev. D. Peter Friberg officiating. Kelli Post was organist and the Church Quartet sand “Saved By Grace.” Congregational Hymns were “How Great Thou Art: and “Faith of Our Fathers.” Active pallbearers were Charles VanBoening, Calvin Burge, Marlin Waechter, Robert Kathman, Melvin Wiest, and William Frahm. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Ferebee, Kenneth Kudrna, Laird Wolfe, Harold Fassler, Godfrey Strasburg, Bud Harlow, Stanley Pavelka and Frederick VanBoening. Interment was at the Blue Hill Cemetery with Merten-Butler Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Blue Hill Leader 10 Aug 1989
