Description	:	Harold C. Getz, 77, of Ster ling, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 in Sterling. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Vigil service and rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Monday, at Chaney Reager. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Mickey Flaska officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Getz was born on Dec.18, 1922 to Alexander and Catherine (Wagner) Getz in Sterling. He entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 1, 1942, during World War II and was a pilot in the Army Air Corps. On April 10, 1943 he married Patricia Brown in Richmond, Va. He was discharged from the Army in October 1945. They lived in Casper, Wyo., for several years. They moved to Sterling in 1955. He worked for Public Service as an accountant for 31 years. He retired from Public Service in 1985, and soon thereafter Sheriff Don Bollish appointed him Undersheriff, a post he held for seven years. He was one of the founding members of the Logan County Sheriff's Posse and served nearly 40 years as captain, until April 2000. He was named Citizen of the Year in 1993. Mr. Getz was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He had membership in numerous local service clubs including Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, Optimists Club, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Club. He is a former board of director for the Logan County Chapter of the American Red Cross, was a Red Cross first aid instructor, an NRA handgun instructor, a former member of the Civil Air Patrol and was a pilot for 45 years. He was a former chairman of the 13th Judicial District Community Corrections Board; served as Logan County and City of Sterling Civil Defense director for 36 years; former District Scouting Director for Northeast Colorado; deputy coroner from 1983 to 1987, former Commander of the VFW Jake Uhrig Post; and two time Commander of the Ameri can Legion Post No. 20. Mr. Getz is survived by two cousins, Gerald Dick of Sterling and LaVeme Wagner of Sterling; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Getz in September 1994. Memorial contributions may be made to the St.Anthony School, 326 S. 3rd, Sterling, Co., 80751.
