Pastor Ken Miller will officiate with burial at the Webster Cemetery at a later date. Special music will be provided by Marilyn Willey. Serving as casketbearers are Cal Joy, Clark Johnson, Don Becht, Lloyd Dale, Rob Wheeler, Bill Erhart and Mel Maxon. All past and present teachers and students of LHS are considered honorary casketbearers. Harold "Seve" Severson was born in Watertown South Dakota March 12, 1935 to George and Ethel (Peeper) Severson. He attended and graduated from Webster High School excelling in athletics and also acquiring the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. He spent several years in the Webster National Guard. He graduated from Northern State University with a bachelor's degree in industrial arts. He worked several years as a lineman both during and after college. He started his teaching career in Lemmon South Dakota in 1965. He married Lana Dee Cole August 12, 1967 at Webster South Dakota. To this union a son was born in 1981. During his 44 years as an educator he taught numerous courses and coached many different sports for both boys and girls. For several summers he worked as a coach for the summer recreational program, which included softball, and baseball and then managed the Lemmon swimming pool for several more years. While teaching and coaching he mentored many young people never losing his love of his chosen career. Always enjoying challenges, Seve developed an interest in computers and taught CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) and computer animation at a time when very few high schools offered these classes and as a result his students had a head start. Throughout life he enjoyed boating, water skiing, snow skiing, horseback riding, dancing, hunting, camping and woodworking. Seve was instrumental in restoring the Petrified Wood Park and continued to work in the park until his death. In 2009 and 2010 he succeeded in restoring the football field to its former glory. The two traits Seve was known for was his humor and the example he set for other people to follow. Seve passed away early Sunday morning, October 31, 2010 peacefully at his home in Lemmon. Holding Seve's memory most near are his wife, Lana, of Lemmon, SD; one son, Chad Severson, Pierre, SD; one foster son, Chris Byron, London, England; one foster daughter, Billie Sue (Chuck) Coleman, McGill, NV; two sisters-in-law, Sandra (Chuck) Judkins, Cle Elum, WA, Diana (Dave) Snaza, Milbank, SD; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation and a time for sharing all of the "Seve" stories will be on Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A memorial has been established.
