Read More	Salina Journal August 21, 1981 CONCORDIA — The funeral for Harold Lowman, 59, Concordia, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Concordia Episcopal Church, the Very Rev. Frederic W. Litchman officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia. Mr. Lowman died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita. He was born March 6, 1922, in Concordia. He began federal service in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and joined the U.S. Weather Service in 1946. He retired in February of this year as the director of the Concordia Weather Service. Lowman fell into meteorology as an afterthought to his original goal of becoming a pilot. His sight in one eye was not perfect so the Air Corps grounded him. He entered a civilian flying program but was sidelined when he came down with double pneumonia. After suffering through a boring clerical job, he quickly enrolled in one of the few areas for which he was qualified weather school. His weather service assignments took him to Goodland, Wilmington, Ohio, and Coif ax, Calif., where he worked on two of the earliest of the cloud seeding projects. While under his leadership, the Concordia Weather Service received a citation for its work during the 1973 tornadoes that tore through Central Kansas. Lowman himself received the Department of Commerce Bronze Metal in 1978 for preparedness and performance. He was a member of the church, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Masons, Nile Temple Shrine of Seattle, Wash., and the American Legion. Surviving are his mother, Florence Lowman, Brea, Calif.; his wife, Betty Jo, of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Terry Lee Adams, Puyllap, Wash.; a son, Stephen, Concordia; four sisters, Mrs. Betty Robison, Brea, Calif.; Mrs. Dorothy Swenson, Concordia; Mrs. Charlotte Kruis, El Toro, Calif., and Mrs. Judy Acquistapace, Irvine, Calif.; five brothers, Arthur, Mission Viejo, Calif.; Richard, Downey, Calif.; John, El Toro, Calif.; Donald, Sacramento, Calif., and Bill, Orange Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. Friends may call at the Chaput Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.
