Description	:	Harold Eugene "Gene" Minkler, 86, passed away Friday, December 4th, 2009, after a long illness. Gene was born April 26, 1923, in Sunnyside, WA, to Harold and Florence Minkler. He graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy Dec. 1942. He served overseas in the Gilbert and Solomon Islands as a Radio Repairman. In 1953, Gene married Margaret (Gerald) Bleakney and adopted her two sons, completing the family with another son and a daughter. Gene worked for Carnation Company and in the 1970's he owned a Dairy Queen in Walla Walla, before semi-retiring to Grandview.... Dad and Mom spent the past four years in Wenatchee. Gene is survived by his wife, four children, Steven (Susan) Minkler, Michael Bleakney, Gary (Kimm) Minkler and Laura (Lee) Nye. Six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and the five grandchildren and numerous great –grandchildren of the Lund family. Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine; and an adopted niece/daughter, Peggy (Gerard) Lund. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Funeral Home in Grandview, WA.
