Description	:	Harold H. Riessen (1924 - 2003) Harold Harry Delbert Riessen was born July 7, 1924, in Otter Creek Township, near Schleswig, to Henry F. Riessen and Dora Hollander. He died November 18, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Harold was baptized on January 12, 1925 and later confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Riessen (1924 - 2003) Harold Harry Delbert Riessen was born July 7, 1924, in Otter Creek Township, near Schleswig, to Henry F. Riessen and Dora Hollander. He died November 18, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Harold was baptized on January 12, 1925 and later confirmed on March 17, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near Schleswig. On December 23, 1951, Harold married Emma (Emmy) Hildegard Marie Schneider at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Harold and Emmy took up farming at various locations around Schleswig. In November of 1987 they moved from their farm west of Schleswig to a house in town. Harold also did various trucking jobs, mowing for Immanuel Lutheran Church, and later in life, errands for his family. Harold and Emmy had four children, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Throughout his life, Harold enjoyed farming and being outside or on the tractor, driving his truck, bowling, going to dances while Emmy was living, playing cards, eating out and in his younger years, playing baseball with the town team. He was of German descent and spoke only German for several years and still enjoyed speaking German with others. He also loved being around his grandchildren and going to their games and events. He always had time for ice cream. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in various ways. He was also a member of the Schleswig Community Club. He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Harold could easily be seen at the Schleswig Feed Store, driving around in his pick-up or on Saturday mornings, at the Denison Sale Barn. He always had a word to say and usually liked to give people a hard time in a teasing manner. He liked children and could be heard saying "give me five", and held out his hand, especially to his grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Emmy; two sisters, Viola and Delores; four brothers, Sonny in infancy; Erwin; Herbert; and Hank; three brothers-in-law, Paul Schneider; William Schneller; and Martin Schneider; one sister-in-law, Edith Schneider; and one son-in-law, Terry Wiegel. Survivors include his children, Carol Korwes and her husband, Jack of Ida Grove; Connie Riessen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Harry Riessen and his wife, Kay of Schleswig; and Brian Riessen and his wife, Heather of Defiance; nine grandchildren, Angelia Wiegel-Clausen, Nathan Korwes; Nicholas, Matthew, Christina, Timothy, Skielar, Sierra, and Elijah Riessen; one great-grandson, Dalton Clausen; one sister, Dorothy, one brother, Ernie and his wife, Delores; six sisters-in-law, Elfie, Reva, and Marian Riessen; Rose Mae Schneller, Shirley Schneider, and Jeannetta Knief and her husband, Cyrenus; one brother-in-law, Herman Schneider; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Organist Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound". "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me", "I'm But a Stranger Here", "Onward Christian Soldiers", and for a special family song "Silent Night! Holy Night"! Those serving as Honorary Pallbearers were: Christina Riessen, Matthew Riessen, Dalton Clausen. Skielar Riessen, Elijah Reissen. Nicholas Riessen, Timothy Riessen, Angelia Clausen, Nathan Korwes, and Sierra Riessen.
