Description	:	NORRIDGEWOCK -- Harold J. Obert, 89, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on May 24, 2012. He was born in Millinocket on Aug. 24, 1922, the son of Phillip J. and Marie W. (Ayotte) Obert. Harold served our country in the Army during World War II, where he was honored with a Purple Heart and four battle stars. Obert, 89, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on May 24, 2012. He was born in Millinocket on Aug. 24, 1922, the son of Phillip J. and Marie W. (Ayotte) Obert. Harold served our country in the Army during World War II, where he was honored with a Purple Heart and four battle stars. After landing on the beaches of Normandy on D-day, Harold survived the Battle of the Bulge, where his unit was cut off from all assistance. Shortly after returning home from the service, Harold married Marion A. Lambert on July 2, 1949. He worked for 35 years at Norrwock Shoe in Norridgewock, and then for several years at New Balance in Skowhegan. During his retirement, he enjoyed working part time at Lazy R Driving Range in Norridgewock. Harold was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since 1946, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of the Grange in Norridgewock for more than 55 years. He is survived by his son, Alan Obert and wife Shari, and a step-grandson, Levi Hayden of Norridgewock; daughter Catherine and partner Russell Ireland, and special granddaughter, Courtney, all of Norridgewock; sister Muriel Quimby of Waterville; brother David Obert and wife Brenda of Norridgewock; and special brother-in-law Clyde Lambert and wife Jean of Norridgewock. Harold was predeceased by his parents; wife, Marion, who passed away on Aug. 11, 1989; three sisters, Phyllis Emerson, Theresa Hutchins and Lottie Lewis; four brothers, Francis, Gordon, Phillip Jr. and Robert; and a very special sister-in-law, Irene Porter. A graveside service will be held at Sunset View Cemetery, Norridgewock. (Morning Sentinel 5/26/2012)
