Kruse died December 17, 2011, in Sebring, Florida, after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 23, 1920, to Jacob and Etta (Jurrens) Kruse. He graduated from George High School in 1938, and served in the US Army for more than three and a half years after high school. He returned to George after his time in the service and married Dena Kanengieter. Two children, Norman and Stephanie, were born from that union. After the death of his first wife, he married Johanna Koerselman Eilders in 2000. He farmed the Kruse family farm until his retirement in 2002, and he and Johanna lived part time in Iowa and part time in Sebring, Fla. In 2007 he and Johanna moved to Sebring to live full time. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Dena. He is survived by his wife Johanna Kruse of Sebring, Fla; son Norman Kruse and his wife Cheryl, and his grandson Kiran, of Menlo Park, Calif.; daughter Stephanie Kruse of Reno, Nev.; sister Ina Faye Underwood of Spencer, Ia.; brother Glen Kruse of Spearfish, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, January 14, at 10 am at the First Baptist Church of George, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Harold Kruse.
