Reverend Tom Hallowell officiated with burial in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Elgin. Harry was born May 13, 1925, in Carson, the son of Henry and Olga (Hansen) Krierleber. He attended school in Carson and left home at age 14 to work for neighboring farmers. At age 15, he worked in a gold mine in Oregon. After working various jobs in the western States, he returned to Elgin in 1942. Harry worked on farms until 1943 then joined the Navy. He served on ships in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Harry married Violet Hochhalter on June 08, 1942, then worked as a mechanic for the railroad before starting his own farm in 1947. He retired from farming in 1978 and moved into Elgin. He did tax work and bookkeeping until 2001. He also worked as a crop adjuster and as manager of Dakota Hills. Harry served as Melville Township assessor, served on election boards, school boards, and the rural fire department. He loved to bowl, golf, was a member of the Germans from Russia, American Legion, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he held several offices. Survivors include his wife, two sons, one daughter, one sister, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Rudolf, Reinhold, Phillip, and Ernie; sisters, Lillie, Ella and Erna; one son, Bruce and a granddaughter, Anne Marie.
