Description	:	Olympia – Former Manson resident Harold R. Hortin, 91, of Olympia died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1992, in an Olympia convalescent center. He was born Oct. 27, 1901, to Burtram and Caroline (Potter) Hortin near Albion, Ill., where he was raised. He graduated from Albion High School. He taught at a country school for two years after graduation. He then attended the University of Illinois and graduated with honors with a degree in education. Hortin, 91, of Olympia died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1992, in an Olympia convalescent center. He was born Oct. 27, 1901, to Burtram and Caroline (Potter) Hortin near Albion, Ill., where he was raised. He graduated from Albion High School. He taught at a country school for two years after graduation. He then attended the University of Illinois and graduated with honors with a degree in education. He married Helen Crome on Feb. 27, 1926, at Albion. He taught school at Wayne County, Ill., for 25 years. The family moved to Manson in 1949 and he was in the orchard business with his son. He returned to teaching at Manson High School until he retired in 1964. Mr. Hortin was a member of the Manson United Methodist Church, the Manson Kiwanis and the Washington State Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a son; Dean of Lacey; a brother, Ernest of Chelan; three sisters, Margaret Ewing of Manson, Hattie Conklin of Chelan and Ruth Etheridge of Fairfield, Ill., three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
