Tom was born on a farm near Beaver Crossing to Herbert and Velma (Geis) Cast on July 3, 1935. He graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1953, where he earned letters in basketball and track. Read More	Harold Thomas Cast of Lincoln, Nebraska July 3, 1935 - January 22, 2019 Harold Thomas “Tom” Cast passed away peacefully on January 22, 2019. Tom was born on a farm near Beaver Crossing to Herbert and Velma (Geis) Cast on July 3, 1935. He graduated from Beaver Crossing High School in 1953, where he earned letters in basketball and track. Following graduation, Tom went to work for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. His job took him to Tecumseh, Nebraska, where he met and married his wife Rebecca “Becky” Ruby on June 1, 1957. Four children were born to this union. Tom worked for the Department of Roads until 1967. During this time, he surveyed the initial construction of the interstate between Lincoln and Omaha. He then went to work for the City of Lincoln Department of Public Works as a Project Engineer, where he supervised the construction and repair of city streets and served a short term as interim director of the department. He retired in 1997. During his working years, he also started the Cast Lawn Service, which he operated for approximately 30 years. He was a long-time member of the Capital City Ford and Mustang Club where he proudly won over 65 trophies showing his 1965 Mustang. In his retirement, he took up the hobby of golf with his friends, scoring a hole-in-one in 2015. He also served as an usher at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ for over 50 years. Tom is survived by his wife Becky of 61 years; sons, Michael (Carol), Matthew, Timothy (Amy); daughter, Barbara Sullivan (friend Shaun Theye); grandchildren, Geoff (Christy) King, Bryan Cast, Shannon Sullivan, Max, Sam, Luke, and Jane Cast; great-grandchildren, Connor and Bradyn King; sister, Jeanie Zimmer; brother Kenneth (Dolores); brother-in-law Jon “Riley” Ruby; special friends Brian and Monica Bossard and Ronald Goble; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; brother and sisters-in-law, Herbie and Frances/Frances; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Bob Kunert, brother-in-law, Darrell Zimmer; niece and nephew, Rose Marie and Dennis Cast; great-niece, Emmaline Nickelson. Visitation will begin at noon, followed by a Rosary and Celebration of Life on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 3 pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln 68510. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Cathedral of the Risen Christ on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Monarch Hospice or Lincoln Children's Zoo.
