Description	:	Harriet Alsie Glasscock was born the daughter of Washington and Isabelle Glasscock. Harriet married the widower, Alexander Worth, on July 6, 1843. At age 19, she became stepmother to 9 children. They had an additional 9 of their own, four sons and five daughters. At the time of Harriet's death, only 4 of her own children were living: Mrs. D. E. Gregory of Indianapolis; Mrs. Alice Shanafelt of Bryson, Texas; Mrs. Fannie Mills of Mooresville, Indiana; and Edward Ames Worth also of Mooresville. Harriet married the widower, Alexander Worth, on July 6, 1843. At age 19, she became stepmother to 9 children. They had an additional 9 of their own, four sons and five daughters. At the time of Harriet's death, only 4 of her own children were living: Mrs. D. E. Gregory of Indianapolis; Mrs. Alice Shanafelt of Bryson, Texas; Mrs. Fannie Mills of Mooresville, Indiana; and Edward Ames Worth also of Mooresville. She also had 5 stepdaughters and one half-sister, Mary McNeff, still living at the time of her death. In the 1860s, she and Alexander moved to Lawrenceburg in southeastern Indiana and from there to Cincinnati, Ohio. Eventually they moved back to Mooresville in 1869 and that is where they lived when Alexander died in 1875. She remained in Mooresville for the remaining 37 years of her life and was well-regarded in the community. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church in childhood and remained a member until her death. During the course of Harriet's life, she was more than mother to Alexander's children. She also worked as secretary of the Indianapolis, Cincinnati & Lafayette Railway Company. In March of 1905, she became ill with pneumonia and never completely recovered. For the final 8 weeks of her life, she was bed-ridden. Her obituary talked of her faith in God and how it helped her through the hard times and especially with the illness that eventually claimed her life. She was obviously loved and dearly missed with her passing. This line from her obituary sums it up the best: "She was naturally of a cheerful disposition and carried sunshine where ever she went and those who knew her best loved her most."
