Funeral is Tuesday Harriet Alvanettie Nichols-Askren, widow of the late J. F. Askren, passed away at her home on East Jefferson Street at 12:45 Saturday afternoon, February 21, 1942, after an illness of several months. She was 77 years old and mother of 10 children. Mrs. Askren was born June 3, 1864, at Newport Kentucky, the daughter of Charles and Harriet (Hopkins) Nichols. March 18, 1886 she was married to J. F. Askren in Kentucky, and they were parents of 10 children, seven of whom survive. They moved to Tipton in August 1908. Mr. Askren passed away October 17, 1937. Two sisters and a brother are also deceased. Children surviving include Mrs. Mae Mitchell, near Arcadia; Mabel at home. Charles of Tipton, Jesse, Jr. of near Tipton, Herman of Indianapolis, Mrs. Pearl Ebert of near Tipton, and Manly Askren at home. There are 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild surviving. Mrs. Askren had been ill since early Fall with heart trouble and had been bedfast since Christmas.
