Description	:	Wellman- Harriet Louise Eyestone was born December 12, 1917 in Brighton, Iowa the daughter of Charles Leslie and Alta Cora Rebecca Hampsher Eyestone. She attended Brighton School and graduated in 1936, receiving an academic letter. Louise taught rural Washington County Schools, driving a Model A Ford down muddy dirt roads each spring to get to school. Her first teaching contract was for $55 per month. Read More	Wellman- Harriet Louise Eyestone was born December 12, 1917 in Brighton, Iowa the daughter of Charles Leslie and Alta Cora Rebecca Hampsher Eyestone. She attended Brighton School and graduated in 1936, receiving an academic letter. Louise taught rural Washington County Schools, driving a Model A Ford down muddy dirt roads each spring to get to school. Her first teaching contract was for $55 per month. She studied at William Penn College in Oskaloosa and Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. On May 14, 1939 she married Lloyd Lyle “Jerry” Hayes in Lancaster, Missouri. To this marriage were born two children, Sandra Pearl and Douglas Dwight. Mr. Hayes preceded her in death in 1952. She worked for the USDA for 20 years as a Chief Clerk at the ASCS office. In 1968 she married Lawrence Whetstine. They resided on an acreage in the Wellman area. He preceded her in death in 2008. Louise moved to Reflections at Parkview in Wellman from October 2014 to September 2015, at which time she moved to the McCreedy Home in Washington. Louise died Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at the McCreedy Home at the age of 97 years. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Greiner of Washington and by her step children: Angie (Ron) Ornduff of Ainsworth, Ed (Sally) and Larry (Millie) Whetstine of Wellman and Carol (Jay) Hough of West Chester. Six grandchildren survive, as well as step grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband: Lloyd Lyle “Jerry” Hayes, her second husband: Lawrence Whetstine, her son: Douglas Hayes and her parents. She was also preceded by her brothers: Clifford and Dale Eyestone and by her sisters: Geneva (Howard) Zihlman, Dorothy (Oren) Elmore, Jean (Joe, Jr.) Knight, Evelyn (Gene) Trask and Norma (Dean) Icenbice. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Wellman, with Rev. Moody Colorado officiating. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery in rural West Chester. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2015, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County or the Washington County 4-H Foundation. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman is caring for Louise and her family. Tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
