She was at the home or her daughter, Mrs. Guss Stout, at Plattsmouth, Nebr., where she and Mr. Benedict had gone a short time ago to spend the winter. The body was brought here for interment, arriving Monday. Mrs. Benedict was one of the real pioneers of the county. She came here when a small child and has done her full share and more in assisting with the development of this county. She had many relatives and a host of friends, all of whom grieve because of her passing. Here is a short sketch of her life. Harriet Ritter, the subject of this sketch, daughter of Henry and Sarah Ritter, was born April 5, 1853, in Douglas county, lllnois, and passed from this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guss Stout, the afternoon of Dec. 9, 1928, at Plattsmouth, Nebr., her age being 75 years, 8 months and 4 days. At the age of three years she moved with her parents to Afton, Union Couty, lowa, where she grew to womanhood. Here at an early age she united with the Methodist church at Afton, and kept the faith in the Savior to the end. At the age of 22 she was united in marriage to Levi Benedict, August 11, 1874. To this union were born nine children. Two of these, a daughter, Mary, preceded her In death when but 5 years of age, and another daughter, Effie Maurer Harbin of Watson Mo, at the age of 39.Also preceding her in death were her five brothers, Jacknon, Newton, Douglas, Jimmie and Willie. She leaves to mourn their loss, seven children: Mrs. Miles Allen, Mrs. Guss Stout, Roy Benedict of Plattsmouth, Nebr.; Frank Benedict, Kersey, Colo.; Mrs. U. S. Carey, John and Newton of Afton. Also 24 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, besides her many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Immanuel Church north of Afton Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in charge of the Rev. M. E. Shank: pastor of the Evangelical church of Afton and interment was made in Greenlawn cemetery at Afton.
