Illinois college for women, was home on vacation and attending the celebration with a group of other young people from Schaller. She was standing her brother, Gordon, when an aerial fireworks bomb (that had exploded twice over the lake) apparently blew back ashore and fell (or was Impelled back to shore by the momentum of the second explosion) to explode a third time on the spot on which Miss Currie was standing. It was said that the particular piece of fireworks in question is sent off with a mortar and explodes three tunes with a fireworks display each time. Cobblestone staff members were setting off the fireworks on the southwest corner of the field where (illegible). Miss Currie was 100 feet away from where the fireworks were being set off. Great precaution had been taken to prevent accidents. Nearly the entire face of Miss Currie was obliterated by the explosion. She was rushed to Porath Hospital but never regained consciousness. The passing of Miss Currie removed one of Schaller's most beloved and respected young women. She was prominent in work at the Schaller Presbyterian church as well as in public spirited activities of all kinds. Surviving are her parents and four brothers: Edward, Douglas, James and Gordon. Her father is cashier in the State bank at Schaller. Because of the tremendous attendance anticipated for Currie's funeral services, the last rites will be held in the Schaller park at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. John Rodman, pastor of the Schaller Presbyterian church will officiate. Bearers will be members of Harriet's 1947 graduation class at Schaller High School. The bearers are James King, Richard Evans, Junior Wanberg, Ronald Challman, Dale Bueler and Aldis Carlberg. Burial will be in the Schaller cemetery with the Knowles Funeral home in charge of the arrangements. Coroner Taylor this afternoon announced that an Inquest into the death of Miss Currie would be held, the time and place to be announced.
