Mrs McKemie was before her marriage, Miss Harriett Maye Askew, youngest daughter of the late J R Askew and Mrs Alice Askew. She was educated in the Union graded schools and at Winthrop college. After teaching a year near West Springs, Georgia, she entered Grady hospital at Atlanta for training and after her graduation therefrom was very successful in her chosen line of work. While employed in the government hospital at Chick Springs she met and was later married to William S McKemie of West Point, Georgia. Although she enlisted in the World War, she was not called overseas and after her marriage made her home in Atlanta. At a tender age she united with the Presbyterian church at Union and lived a consistent Christian life. She was fully conscious of her approaching end and talked with her sister a few minutes before her death. An affectionate mother, and devoted wife, she numbered her friends throughout the Carolinas and Georgia by the score. Her body was carried to Union, arriving there about noon Wednesday where it rested at the home of her uncle, J V Askew, until it was borne to its final resting place at Mt Tabor, interment being by the side of her father, who died six years ago. She is survived by her husband, W S McKemie, two small daughters, Mary Alice and Harriett Elizabeth, all of Atlanta, her mother, Mrs Alice Askew of Union and Norway, three sisters, Mrs C H Able of Norway, Mrs R C Shands of Union and Mrs H E Cannon of Atlanta, and a brother, S C Askew of Charlotte, NC, besides a number of nieces and nephews.
