Description	:	Harry A. Klaassen, 89, died Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2000) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born Oct. 7, 1911, to Abraham and Margaret (Wiebe) Klaassen in Whitewater. They preceded him in death. He married Martha Entz Sept. 21, 1939, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. She preceded him in death July 1, 1984. He was born Oct. 7, 1911, to Abraham and Margaret (Wiebe) Klaassen in Whitewater. They preceded him in death. He married Martha Entz Sept. 21, 1939, at First Mennonite Church in Newton. She preceded him in death July 1, 1984. On March 9, 1985, he married Helen Entz Kaufman at Sister Frieda Chapel in Newton. She survives of Newton. He grew up in the Whitewater area, attending rural Whitewater grade schools and high school. Growing up he worked on the family farm with his father. He was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. He was formerly a church trustee and served on the church building committee. He also served as a board member of McLain's Grain Inc. and Kellas School District No. 35. Other survivors include: two sons, Vernon Klaassen of Sedgwick and Dallas Klaassen of Newton; two daughters, Frances Thiessen of Buhler and Leanna Hefley of Hillsboro; a stepdaughter, Sharon Wedel of Burns; two brothers, Herman Klaassen of Newton and Rolland Klaassen of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by: two brothers, Irvin Klaassen and Ted Klaassen; and a sister, Erma Harder. Funeral service was Sunday at First Mennonite Church in Newton with the Revs. Dan G. Regier and Lubin Jantzen officiating. Private family graveside service was Monday morning at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials have been established with TEAM Missions to benefit Sharon Harder and Berean Academy in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
