Armstrong Harry Albert, son of James and Anna Armstrong, was born October 30, 1859, near Hollen, Ontario, Canada, and died October 10, 1942 in Clarks, Nebraska, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was one of 13 children born to these parents, ten of whom have preceded him in death. He spent his boyhood and early manhood in Canada, moving to Michigan, U.S.A. soon after becoming of age. He then took naturalization papers and became a citizen of the United States. He worked in Michigan at several locations as a clerk in the drug business, thereby acquiring the experience and qualifications necessary to become a registered druggist. On December 13, 1883, he was united i marriage with Mary Della Sweeny, at Morenci, Michigan. To this union were born two children, Nona, now Mrs. Shaw Little of Clarks, Nebraska and Percy Armstrong of Hastings, Nebraska. Also were two nephews, Harry and Perley Smith, who were raised to manhood as regular members of the family. The family moved to South Dakota in 1886 where they resided until 1888 when they returned to the old home in Michigan. That same fall they moved to Edgar, Nebraska, where they resided until 1936. In August of that year Mrs. Armstrong suffered an injury to her hip and being unable to care for their home, she and Mr. Armstrong moved to Clarks where they made their home with Dr. and Mrs. Shaw Little. Mrs. Armstrong having passed away October 10, 1940, Mr. Armstrong continued to live in that home. Mr. Armstrong spent the greater portion of his life in Edgar as a traveling salesman for two different wholesale grocery concerns. One of the companies had previously employed him as a druggist in Michigan. Mr. Armstrong conducted a general merchandise store in Edgar at which time he was also mayor of this city. At a still later period he conducted an office handling rentals, insurance and loans. Through these several businesses, Mr. Armstrong made many friends and acquaintances over the entire state as well as parts of the neighboring states. One of his * * ures in life was in * and keeping tho * * continued visits * * * moving to Clarks he greatly misold home and friends in Edgar surrounding territory. However, was greatly cheered by the * friends found in his new home. His greatest interest was in his family and the individual activities of its members. This interest was equally keen in regard to his grandchildren and was noticeable to the very end of his life. It was his greatest satisfaction to find when evening came, that all members of the family were home and together. If any were missing, a certain restlessness was **. After gradually failing health, Mr. Armstrong passed away at Clarks on Saturday, October 10, 1942, exactly two years to the day after Mrs. Armstrong had passed away at the same home. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. S. S. Slimmons of Elora, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. M. A. Lang of St. Vincent, Minnesota; children, Mrs. Shaw Little of Clarks and Percy of Hastings; grandchildren, Shaw Little in the U. S. Navy, Tom of Hastings, Jack in the U. S. Army, and Barbara of Clarks, Mary and Nona Jean Armstrong of Hastings and a great grandson, Jimmy Joe Little of Hastings. In addition, there are many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the home of Dr. Shaw Little in Clarks Tuesday, October 13, 1942. at 10:00 a.m. with Rev C. D. Hayes, Congregational minister, in charge. Services were held at the grave in Edgar at 3:00 p.m. with Rev Hayes in charge. Interment was in the Edgar Cemetery. The relatives attending the funeral of Mr. Armstrong were: Dr. and Mrs. Shaw Little and daughter of Clarks, Mr. ad Mrs. Percy Armstrong and two daughters, Mary and Nona Jean, of Hastings and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Little of Hastings.
