He was born September 7, 1905 to Ben and Mary (Dudden) Brinkema on the family farm near Glenville, Nebraska. He was baptized into the Christian faith January 24, 1907 in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Glenville, Nebraska. He reaffirmed his faith through the rite of confirmation in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst on April 24, 1921. In 1919 Harry moved to Phillips County with his parents and brothers, Ralph and George. He attended the "Red Brick" rural school in northeastern Colorado and the ninth grade in Amherst. Harry was united in marriage to Leona Krueger on April 17, 1935. This union was blessed with five children, Garnett, Shirley, Norma, Harry and Jenet. They first lived on a farm south of Venango, Nebraska until 1943 when they moved to a farm two miles west of Amherst. They lived on this farm, except for a two year period when the family resided in Denver, until they returned in 1968. They then moved to a home they built two miles east of Holyoke. He and Leona spent many enjoyable years traveling and collecting antiques. Harry's agricultural operation included diversified cattle, dryland wheat and irrigated farming. He was an area pioneer in irrigated farming. He also had many other interests and hobbies including flying, antique automobiles and gun collecting. His love of antiques led him to establish and operate the Frontier Museum on Lookout Mountain near Golden for several years. The pride and joy of his collection was a 1947 Tucker and the first production model of the Chevrolet Corvair. Harry was also active in the communities in which he lived. He was a charter member of the Amherst Volunteer Fire Department and served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He held membership in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst, following his family's move to Colorado, until he and Leona joined the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke in 1983. Throughout the years he served in various church offices and worked on numerous church boards and committees. He was dedicated and faithful to a Lord who had fully and richly blessed his life. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Brinkema; a sister, Katie; two brothers, Ralph and George; and a granddaughter, Holly Kay Rodeman. He is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Leona; four daughters, Garnett Templeton and her husband Mike of Denver, Shirley Rodeman and her husband Keith of Amherst, Norma Dickinson and her husband Don of Sterling and Jenet Enninga and her husband Don of Ft. Morgan; one son, Harry Glen and his wife Sally of Holyoke; 14 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke on April 13, with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
