Strain, 83, were held in the Burlingame cemetery on Sunday afternoon, January 28. Mr. Strain's death occurred at his home north of Lyndon on Tuesday, Jan. 23, following a few days' illness caused by a stroke of paralysis. The Strain family was one of the pioneers of eastern Osage county. His wife, who survives him, was formerly Mattie Stout, an elder daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Stout of this community. Harry Campbell Strain was born April 25, 1857, at Wheeling, W. Va., At the age of 14 he journeyed with his parents, Thomas Taylor Strain and Eliza Robinson Strain to a farm five miles north of Lyndon, Kansas. At this place he helped his parents build the house for their home; but shortly after the house was built his mother and younger brother, Willis, passed away. Then Harry and his brother Frank with their father went to Kansas City, Mo., and worked in the Keystone Iron Works, his father having been a foundryman all his life. Harry also worked for various gardeners about Kansas City and on farms in Kansas, but finally decided to settle on his father's farm north of Lyndon. On March 1, 1883 he was married to Mary E. Stout. To this union one son, Okey Strain was born and who now makes his home in Calgary, Canada. On January 23, 1889 his wife passed away. On March 3, 1896, he was married to Mattie B. Stout and to this union four children were born: Thomas Bryan Strain now living at Denver, Colo., Robert E. Strain and Lyndon H. Strain of Lyndon, and Mrs. Alberta Kennedy of Tecumseh. In 1904 the Strain family moved to Alberta, Canada, and in 1911 they came back to the farm north of Lyndon, and there Mr. Strain lived until the time of his death. Mr. Strain was a lover of nature and all things beautiful. He loved all sorts of athletic sports, and hunting and fishing. He was a lover of the Bible, and found great satisfaction in the teachings of Jesus, and tried hard to live up to the demands of the golden rule. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife and children, one granddaughter, Mary Okalta Strain of Calgary, Canada, nieces and a nephew who lives in Baltimore, Md., and many friends and neighbors.
