Strain, 72, of Lyndon, were held in the Burlingame cemetery on Friday afternoon, March 15. Mrs. Strain was an elder sister of Oliver Stout of this community and spent her life until young womanhood in this locality. Mrs. Strain's death occurred at her home seven miles north of Lyndon early Wednesday morning, March 13, following a sudden heart attack. Her husband passed away on January 23rd of this year. Martha Bell Strain, daughter of Henson L. and Rebecca E. Stout, was born at Philippi, W. Va., April 19, 1868. She came yo Kansas with her parents when a child of eight years, locating first in Douglas county. In 1879 the family came to Osage county where they continued to reside. Following the death of Mr. Strain's first wife, who was Mary Stout, in 1889, he was united in marriage to Martha, better known as Mattie Stout, on March 3, 1896. To this union was born four children, three sons, Thomas Bryan Strain now living at Denver, Colo., Robert E. Strain and Lyndon H. Strain of the home; and one daughter, Mrs. Alberta Kennedy of Tecumseh. There also survive two brothers, John S. Stout of Crawford, Okla., and Oliver Stout of Burlingame; and six sisters, Mrs. C.J. Worrall and Mrs. Sarah Thompson of Lyndon; Mrs. Ben Rozelle of Rockport, Tex., Mrs. Lee Long of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. Stella Slatten of Topeka, and Mrs. Olive Johnson of Whittier, Calif. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church at Lyndon at two o'clock, Friday afternoon, and interment was made in the family burial plot in the Burlingame cemetery.
