At the age of 3, he came to Wisconsin with his parents, and the following year came to the Rock Creek community where he lived until 17 years of age. Then he engaged in business in Osage, finally forming a partnership with his brother, John, in the Goplerud department store for 35 years. He was postmaster in Osage for 10 years. He married Dena Groth in 1890. She preceded him in death. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Sam Savre; 1 son Clifford, both of Osage; 3 sisters; Mrs. A. P. Fjelde of Osage; Mrs. E. Z. Larson, Minneapolis; and Guri Fjelde of Parkland, Wash. Two years later (1869), the family moved to Rock township, Mitchell County, Iowa. Married Dina Petersdatter Groth on June 4, 1890 at RCLC Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had 2 Children.
