Sept 28, 1950 - Carroll Daily Times - Harry E Beach of Des Moines, retired court reporter and former Carroll resident, died early this morning at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Mr. Beach, who was 77 years old, had been in ill health since July, having been hospitalized for three weeks at that time. The body is at a funeral home in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at Des Moines at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The body will be brought to Carroll for burial in the family lot here. Mr Beach was a member of a well known pioneer family here. He was born October 10, 1872 at Glidden, a son of Myron W. and Lydia E. Presnell Beach. He spent the first 11 years of his life in Glidden. In 1883 he came to Carroll with his parents. His father, an attorney, had law offices here. After attending the public schools of Glidden and Carroll, Mr. Beach took up the study of law in Council Bluffs. He was admitted to the bar in 1897. In 1892 he became a court reporter, working at his profession here for many years and subsequenlly at Des Moines. On his retirement in Des Moines a few years ago, he was succeeded by his son, Warren, who had previously lived in Marshalltown. Mr. Beach was a former president of the Iowa State Court Reporters association. During his long residence in Carroll, he had served as postmaster. He was appointed by President W.H. Taft, his commission having been dated March 11, 1911. Besides his son Warren, Mr Beach leaves two married daughters: Frances who lives in California and Florence in Denver; and one sister, Dr. Lena Beach of Los Angeles, CA. Two brothers preceded him in death: Dr M.A. Beach and Dr. Arthur A. Beach. He also was preceded in death by a son, Myron.
