He also had a half-sister named Cora M. Smith, who died in 1918. ------------------------------------- The obituary for Harry "S." (should be "F.") Smith, was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper in Niles, Michigan on Aug. 19, 1953. It reads as follows: ------------------------- HARRY S. SMITH. Buchanan - Harry S. Smith, 80, of 108 Charles court, Buchanan, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Berrien County Hospital at Berrien Center where he had been a patient since Aug. 8. He had been ill several months. Smith was born Dec. 23, 1872, in Buchanan Township the son of Howard and Libbie Smith. He moved from Buchanan as a young man and returned in 1939 after retiring from the Detroit Edison Electric Company. He has lived here since that time. He was married in September, 1902, in Detroit to Ida Kimble, who died in July, 1915. His only survivor other then nieces and nephews is a [half] sister, Mrs. Carrie [Caroline] Starr [formerly Mrs. Richard Kean] of Buchanan. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Swem Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Oldt, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. ------------------------------------- Note: In 1932, Harry was named as the executor for the will of his cousin Milton James Bliss, the son of his Aunt (Howard's sister) Nancy (Smith) Bliss-Studebaker. ----- Milton James Bliss also left Harry fourty-two acres of land in Niles Township, on Geyer Road, N.-E. of Buchanan, MI, in his will. ------------------------------------ Harry returned to Buchanan, MI in 1939 after he retired. --- Harry is buried near his father Howard Francis Smith, and Howard's second wife Mary, in the Oak Ridge Cemetery (in Section A, Lot 93). --------------------------------------
