Karst Harry J. Karst, of Billings, passed away early Thursday morning, Aug. 21, at the age of 72, at St. Vincent Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of George and Katie Foos Karst. He was born on the Huntley Project, Oct. 21, 1924, and attended his schooling there. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Army where he served during WW II in Japan and the South Pacific. Harry was honorably discharged Nov. 16, 1946. On May 5, 1951, he married Dolores June Blazer at which time they moved to Billings. He worked on construction for several years and in 1967 he started working for Associated Food Stores till his retirement in 1988. Harry loved working in his garden and fussing with his roses. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help someone in need. Harry is survived by June, his wife of 46 years; daughter, Shelly Rae and son-in-law Steve Moats of Billings; two grandsons, Justin and Jason, whom his life revolved around. Shelly and Harry had a special relationship and they loved each other very, very much. He loved to listen to her play the accordion, piano, and organ. He always had a special place for his niece, Jennifer Balzer DuBois and Jenna Bokma, his God Child, who gave him his name "Hare-Bear." Harry is also survived by three sisters of Billings, Lilly Karst, Hannah Schuirring and Esther Strecker. He was preceded in death by his father and mother and four brothers: Ray, Alex, Izzie and Melvin. Harry was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church. Memorials may be given to the church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday Aug. 25, 1997, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church. Interment will follow with military rites at Sunset memorial Gardens, Billings, MT.
