He passes away February 10, 2017 at his residence. Hr. Franks was born in Monticello, Indiana on May 1, 1935. He was the son of the late Harry Franks and Gertrude Tillett Franks. Branch: Army Service: Korean Conflict Resided in: Jim had lived in the Monticello, Indiana, most all his life Funeral Date: Friday, February 17, 2017 Funeral Location: 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017, Celebration of Life Service will be at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana Clergy: Rev. Brian Beeks of the Monticello United Methodist Church of Monticello, Indiana. Burial will take place: Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello, Indiana Visitation will be: 12:00 (noon) to 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017, at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana. Biographical Information: Jim had been in failing health for the last several years. He had lived in the Monticello, Indiana, area most all his life and was a 1953 graduate of Monticello High School of Monticello, Indiana. Jim was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired fire chief of the Monticello Fire Department, having served the department for over twenty years, and was the chief at the time of the 1974 tornado. Jim was instrumental on getting the ambulance service started at the Monticello Fire Department. After retiring from the fire department, Jim went to work at the old RCA Factory in Monticello, Indiana, working as a Fire Safety and Security Officer. After the closing of the RCA Factory in Monticello, Indiana, Jim was transferred to the Indianapolis, Indiana, RCA Factory (which became Thompson Consumer Products), until he retired again. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #81, and was a former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #154, both of Monticello, Indiana. He was a member of the Monticello Rotary Club when he serviced as the Monticello Fire Department Chief. Jim very much enjoyed going to Kinser’s Bakery Shop for coffee and donuts, and getting all the local scoop and giving everyone a hard time. Special Services: Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in ruarl Monticello, Indiana. Memorial Information: Memorials may be given to the Monticello Fire and Rescue Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Marriage Information: On November 24, 1982, at the Yeoman United Methodist Church in Yeoman, Indiana, he married Marie Y. Sherril; she passed away on Friday, February 4, 2011. Survivors include a Daughter; Pamela (husband Roland) Hardwick of Brookston, Indiana; his sons,Jim (wife Jeanne) Franks of Burnettsville, Indiana, Greg (wife Debbie) Franks of Florida, and Christopher (wife Melissa) Franks of Lebanon, Indiana;Six (6) Grandchildren; Seven (7) Great Grandchildren; Brother,Donald R. "Don" (wife Marilyn) Franks of Ocoee, Florida. He was Preceded in Death by his parents, Harry and Gertrude (Tillett) Franks; his Wife, Marie Y. Franks.
