Read More	Harry Kenneth Doty was born Jan. 30, 1908 to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Doty of LaHarpe. He died at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom at the age of 78 after an illness of many months. During the last weeks of his life, he was patient and tried to be cheerful. He appreciated daily mail, visits of relatives and friends, and was grateful for the tender, friendly care given him by the hospital staff. Beginning school in LaHarpe, Kenneth moved with his family to a farm northeast of Ransom at the age of 5. He attended grade and high school in Ransom, where his class was the first to graduate from the new high school, built in 1926. Kenneth was center for the football team. He attended business college in Wichita. Upon finishing school, he returned home to help his parents who now had seven children, with the family farm. After years of farming with horses, cutting and threshing wheat which was hauled by horse drawn wagon, the Dotys bought a tractor, combine, and model T Ford truck in 1929. Farming continued until the devastating dirt storms of the ‘30s. Moving from the farm into Ransom, Kenneth assisted his father, who had become a paperhanger. Years later he drove a gas truck for the Co-op. His favorite employment was being a movie-projector operator. He learned to run the machines and started working at Ransom Theatre when he was 14. In this occupation for many years, he also worked in Gothenburg, Cimarron, Syracuse, LaCrosse, Russell, and Ness City theatres. He retired as a projectionist at the age of 70. During the depression years, his only income at Ransom Theatre was that his family could attend the movies free. In 1940 and ‘41, Kenneth and his father ran the Ransom Skating Rink. Kenneth asked for very little, and led a quiet life. He enjoyed playing croquet and bingo, and watching ball games. Snoopy, Kenneth’s dog, was a special friend.A devoted family man, he was most content at home. Kenneth’s many employers showed him great respect, and he was never knowingly unkind. Kenneth is missed by: sisters Amy Jarvis and Levi, Helen Clouston, Rosalie Schweitzer and Raymond, Reita Schreiber and Vincent; brothers Shelby, and Ed and Gloria; nieces Linda McFadden and Harold, Cindy Knoll and Ron, Mary Lee DeShazo and Joe, Jeanne MacDonald and Clif, Ann Garrelts and Gayle, Barbara Poage and Jerry, Janica Martynow and Tom, Claudia Wrightson and Bill, Sharon Sauther and Jerry, Leslie Aitken and Thomas; nephews Brad Doty, Donald Clouston and Carolyn, Robert Clouston and Marye, Darrel Schweitzer and Shirley, Ken Schweitzer and Linda; great nieces and nephews, and many friends.
