He married Mary Belle Moules 4-12-1903 in LaHarpe, Allen Co, Kansas. -------- Harry P. Doty, son of James E. and Maria Potter Doty, was born November 23, 1872, on a farm near Ottumwa, Iowa. He departed this life February 14, 1961, at the age of 88 years, two months and 21 days. In his young manhood he became a member of the Methodist Church. In December of 1897 he came to LaHarpe, Kansas, with his parents. A few years later he moved to Moran, where he was a rural mail carrier. It was in Moran that he met Mary Moules whom he married on April 12, 1903, at LaHarpe. In March of 1913 the Doty family moved to a farm northeast of Ransom, where they resided until 1920, at which time Mr. Doty became the manager of the Farmer’s Union and he and his family moved to Ransom. For many years Mr. Doty served his community as a paper hanger and painter. In later years he assisted his sons in managing the Strand Theatre and the skating rink. He especially liked the skating rink work as it brought him in contact with the young people. He was an ardent sports fan. He attended all of the local high school’s football and basketball games for many, many years. Mr. Doty was a man of unfailing generosity and integrity. He was a kind and loving husband and father. His 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren were the delight of his heart.He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mrs. Mary Doty; and his children, Mrs. Amy Ummel, Kenneth Doty, Mrs. Rosalie Schweitzer, Mrs. Reita Schreiber, all of Ransom, Mrs. Helen Clouston of Ness City; Ed Doty of Pocatello, Idaho and Shelby Doty of Jefferson City, Mo., also by his only surviving brother, Fred Doty of Moran, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from the Ransom Methodist Church on Thursday, February 16, 1961, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Ray Keller officiating. Honorary pallbearers were: Charles Dubbs, G.I. Shellenberger, Fred Amstutz, L.B. Dubbs and George Osborn. Active pallbearers were: Tholen and Harrie Clawson, Jake Long, Leonard Kreutzer, Virgil Simpson and Lester Oliver. Interment was in the Ransom Cemetery.Ness Co. News, Feb. 23, 1961
